How to Remove Mold from Clothes

Your favorite sweater has mold on it? Learn how to save it in today’s article.

Why Mold Appears on Clothes

If you have spotted mold on your items, check for any moisture sources in rooms where those items are held.

Mold grows in places with high humidity, making that a likely reason for your annoying issue.

This is why the most common places where mold is spotted are the bathroom and kitchen.

Once you determine the moisture source, the next step you should take is to inspect your closet or any other place where you store your clothes for any additional mold that might be hiding.

Check organic surfaces, as mold only grows on things it can eat.

Once you have completed that step, it’s time to clean your clothes.

Removing Mold from Clothes

Prepare white vinegar for this duty. It’s a great product for killing mold.

You don’t want to use wine or apple vinegar as those contain sugar, which mold can absorb and use as an energy source.

The first step in the cleaning process is removing visible mold stains. You can use an old toothbrush. Make sure to apply vinegar to all stains you’re brushing off.

Once you’re done, wash your clothes in hot water as long as the temperature is under the max temperature recommended for washing on your item’s label.

Add vinegar in your washer in order to kill any mold you couldn’t brush off.

And that’s it! Just make sure to dry your clothes naturally, without a dryer.

If the process doesn’t work, try again. It may take multiple tries to see results.

We understand how annoying it is to see your favorite clothing item held hostage by the green monster. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t save it. Try the process above and let us know how it went.
